Pictures?

Katey & Angie, one last hug. She really misses having Angie at home...except that now she can wear her clothes! A whole new wardrobe isn't a bad thing, right? :)
Matt & Lauren on the "broom stick swing" that Matt made from rope and a broom stick. Interesting combination.......but I don't think I'll try sitting on it!
Here's Angie & I the day we left her at college. Note who looks happier on this day! She loves college, and we are very thankful for that! I just wish she were about 4 hours closer....it would make weekend visits much easier!
WHO IS THAT GUY????? That is my dear one with coffee grounds for a beard, his dark sunglasses, and a spiffy cowboy hat. It was his "costume" for a trick on Matt & his friends on Halloween night. He snuck around the back of the house and came up the front sidewalk, looking very shifty. It was a little suspicous to the boys since he didn't have any little kids with him, but you never know on Halloween night, who might be out and about. So, our character walks slowly to the porch where Matt is sitting (as a scarecrow, trying to scare older kids) holding the bowl of candy. Bob reaches into the bowl with one hand, and grabs the edge of the bowl with the other, and takes off running with it. Matt, ever the hero of saving our candy, dives off the porch to tackle him........comes withing 2 inches of hitting his head on the landscaping bricks around the tree! Knocks the air right out of him!!! And then when he realized it was his dad, he really wanted to tackle him! It was pretty darn funny......afterwards! :)

SPRING HAS SPRUNG!!

SPRING!!! HOORAY!!!

Ok, so it was brought to my attention that I'm not as good at this as some other people. So, I apologize. I'll try and cram 3 months of information into a little space. The house is quiet for the time being, so we'll see how much I can tell you!

February was very nice as far as Valentine's day goes. My sweet husband really outdid himself this year. It started with a shopping trip to Des Moines on Sunday, where he let me pick out any purse I wanted from Kohls. That may not sound alot to the common woman, but for me it's HUGE!! You see, I'm a basic black or brown purse kind of chick. It's sensible and goes with most things. I'm not a gal whose shoes have to match her purse, or her outfit for that matter. I'm comfortable with being me, and to have to think that hard in the morning is not up my alley. Anyway, I choose a bag that is striped and has sequins on it. Very stylin', everywhere I go people comment on my really cool purse! Then he tried to take me out to eat at a swanky restaurant, but they were closed. So then we tried Texas Roadhouse, at 3:00 they had an hour wait. So we ate semi-fast Mexican food. :) When we got home he asked if I wanted "the rest" of my present. Hmmmm....well, it's not truly Valentine's day, so let's wait until the day. I need to back up....he took me to Bath & Body Works too, and I got some yummy smelling shower stuff, and some stuff that heats up when you put it on your skin.........very cool. Ok, so back to getting home..........so he said, well, ok......if you want to wait............I should have known he was up to something. Turns out he couldn't wait to give me the 6(!) towel, handtowel, washcloth LAURA ASHLEY (!) set that he had bought a few weeks before. Oh my gosh, they are sooooo soft. I feel like a queen whenever I use them!

On Monday, the FedEx guy shows up with flowers from ProFlowers.com.......2 dozen long stem roses........GORGEOUS!!! I was the envy of every girl that came into my office! Yep, he really out did himself this year!!!!

March was pretty eventful. I ended up at the ER one morning because I wasn't sure if I was having a heart attack, or indigestion.......turns out my ulcers were flaring again. My bp was skyhigh........145/103..........so he sent me to my regular dr. Actually, I don't go to a regular doc.........Vermeer has a health clinic that is free to it's employees and their families that is run by Nurse Practitioners. They were a bit concerned about my numbers and so now I am on BP medicine. She also wanted me to take a stress test, can't wait to see that bill! Seems as though everything is just peachy, I just have inheirited the high blood pressure from my dad. All my sisters have it, so why shouldn't I, right?

The highlight of my March was going to Colorado Springs. Actually, the going part, clear across Nebraska in one day wasn't a great highlight........but being back in the Springs was great! I was able to see lots of friends at FOF and SCC and spend time with just a few of them, quality time if not in great quantity. During the day I was busy attending a seminar at New Life church for small group leadership training. So, I snuck in lunch dates 2 days, and supper dates 2 nights, and a quick visit at NL before I left town with some former S&L ministry leaders. It was a sweet time of reunions and affirmations that friends are friends forever if you are friends in the Lord. It was like I hadn't even been gone. We picked up conversations like we had just talked the day before! I love my CO friends. I wish they would all move to Iowa.......then I could have the best of both worlds!

Angie was home for a week in March too. It was fun to have her around. She declared it felt "weird" to be here after having been gone for 3 months. She's going to work at school for part of this summer, spend a few weeks in the Springs, and then be home for the month of August. She is absolutely loving school and of course, has made lots of friends. And as far as I know, she's doing pretty good in her classes.

So here it is April, we've made it through the first week without strangling any of our dear, sweet children. It was close a few days, but instead, there are dishes to be washed and events to be missed as consequences of deceit and late homework assignments. I wonder if they will ever get it, that if you just turn it in life is so much nicer? :-)

Tonight Bob & Lauren are at the Daddy Daughter Dance. I put her hair up in a fancy do, Daddy bought her a corsage, and they went out for supper... Lauren's choice, I'm guessing it was McDonalds.....and then off to the dance. Maybe Daddy will spring for ice cream on the way home!

That's about all that's new..........for now. I'll try and do a bit better in the future.........Have a lovely spring day! April is my favorite month for many reasons.......but mostly because I am so durn tired of winter, that the first little flowers just send my heart to singing! I LOVE IT!

Happy Spring!

Welcome to my corner of the Universe

This is really just a personal journal of things in my life. I don't update often, just when I need to vent or do some therapeutic journaling. I'm glad you stopped by. If you feel like leaving some encouragement, please do so...we all need a kind word every now and again! Have a blessed day!

About Me

My photo
I'm a 45 year old mother of 4 biological children and currently 2 other little ones who are living with us temporarily. I've been in love with the same man since 1981 and appreciate him more and more the longer we are together. I delayed going to college until I was in my 40's, a decision I don't regret as it has been a wonderful experience for me. I have learned so much and having several years of life experience has given me great perspective.
